ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistani ambassador to Af
ghanistan, Rustam Shah Mohmand, has shed light on the importance of Iran’s inclusion in any
peace process in Af
ghanistan.
According to media reports
, the former ambassador said that Iran’s role was integral to the
peace process in Af
ghanistan as Iran shared a large border with the country. He added that to maintain friendly ties with Kabul
, the idea of hosting Afghan refugees cannot be discarded.
Regarding
the recent discussion on Af
ghanistan by Russia, China and Pakistan in Moscow, Mohmand said that any meeting, conference or deliberation on Af
ghanistan is pointless without its own inclusion or the participation of key neighbours like Iran.
He said that the sovereignty of Af
ghanistan as an independent country must be recognised and should be made a crucial part of
the discussions on the Afghan
peace process.
